Powerman North Carolina
Today I did Powerman North Carolina which was an 8K run, 53K bike, and another 8K run. I have had a really bad cold the past couple of days, but it was still on the upswing i.e. getting worse, and it did so again today. I'm hoping this is the worst of it. I was up all night. I was up all night the night before as well because my cat, Pops, was very ill. I ended up having to put him down, SO it's been a very stressful last few days. Today I was just exhausted. I had an okay first run, a terrible bike, and a terrible last run. I caught everyone except for the lead gal on the bike within 7 miles, and I was gaining on her too when I just got really sick. The course was lovely. I rode it yesterday and loved it! I thought that it would be perfect for me, and it would have been had I been feeling up to par. I was just too exhausted today, and everything hurt. You know how it feels when you have a bad cold or the flu---those body aches, and you can't breathe. Plus all of the medication I had been taking had taken its toll on my stomach.
My Achilles is sort of holding up but was very sore on the last run. I can only run 3x per week, so it's hard to get a good base. It's very frustrating for me because I used to run faster mile splits during my marathons! The lead girls went through the first mile of the first run in like 5:57. My marathon splits were sub 5:50, but that was then and this is now.
I don't know what my next race will be. I may do Powerman Ohio on May 14th, or I may do the Joe Martin Stage Race. I don't really have a schedule. I just do what my body i.e. Achilles allows me to do. I'm at its mercy.
I miss my cat. I've cried alot these past couple of days. I'm just so drained. I look forward to getting a good sleep tonight. My host family has just been wonderful. I told them that usually I'm a lot more fun. I've been more like a sloth ever since I've gotten here.
Alright, ciao peeps.
